Some men feel pain that appears to come from their prostate or the surrounding area, but investigation does not appear to reveal any inflammation or infection. What causes this condition, which is referred to as prostatodynia or pelvic pain syndrome, is not known, though it may result from spasm of the pelvic muscles brought on by stress and anxiety. Depending on your symptoms, you may be given alpha-blockers, which may have to be taken for some time, or the muscle relaxant diazepam. Much more research is needed into this disorder to identify the underlying cause of the problem, to improve the cure rate and enhance the quality of life of those affected.
