This website is foremostly intended to provide patients, carers and the general public with detailed information about prostatic diseases. It is also to promote the cause of Prostate Research Campaign UK in the raising of funds for research into the prevention, treatment and management of these diseases plus the all-important training and awareness programmes which we run.
The Prostate Clinic
Covering PSA, Prostate Cancer, BPH and Prostatitis
This is the principal medical section of this website which has, since the site was first constructed, consisted of largely unaltered text from the book "Small gland - BIG problem" written by Professor Roger Kirby and donated to this charity. There have been three editions of this book at three yearly intervals and the text in this website has been taken from Edition 3 published in the autumn of 2006. Updating of the book and the website is intended to continue at similar intervals.
The original text and the newer editions have been reviewed and approved by the medical panel of Prostate Research Campaign UK including Professor Roger Kirby (Chairman and Consultant Urologist), Mr Neil O'Donoghue (Deputy Chairman and Consultant Urologist) and Dr Thomas Stuttaford O.B.E. (Vice Chairman, GP and medical journalist).
The other members of the Medical and Research Sub-Group are the charity's medical trustees and medical members of the Advisory Council. The Medical and Research Sub-Group is also responsible for the assessment and granting of awards for research projects supported by Prostate Research Campaign UK.
News about the prostate world
Covering Prostate Medical News, People & Lifestyle News, FAQs, and
the UPDATE newsletter.
The Prostate Medical News, and People & Lifestyle News sections of the site are updated regularly with current and topical news from different sources. A number of contributors including Consultants, Registrars and Researchers, scour the medical journals and other media for items of interest. Our own editorial staff find articles from news feeds and other sources. These are added as topical articles - sometimes having been put into lay language first. Full source references are given for these articles where possible.
The UPDATE newsletter is published four times a year and includes topical material from a wide variety of sources. The FAQ section is not written by medically qualified authors. Both of these items are written by a variety of sources and are of a journalistic nature. There is no formal evidential review and the opinions are those of the contributors.
On some occasions, professionally qualified people, including the charity's Chairman and other Trustees write articles specifically for any of these sections.
Research
The research section lists the projects which are supported by Prostate
Research Campaign UK together with the reports provided by the researchers. This
material is not subject to review.
