Help us to stop prostate diseases ruining lives
THE IMPACT OF COMORBIDITY ON OUTCOME AFTER TURP; ASSESSMENT USING THE COMORBIDITY SYMPTOM SCALE

Surgery for benign prostate disease is very common in elderly men. Such men often have co-existing morbidity, this study attempted to evaluate the impact of prostate surgery on men's perception of their co-existing diseases, before and after, prostate surgery.

This research looked at 44 men having prostate surgery and found that TURP (the operation for benign prostate disease) improved co-morbidity scores, but felt this was only partially due to relief of urinary symptoms and conclude that a larger study is needed. Dr. Tut won a prize for her presentation of this work at the British Geriatric Society annual meeting.
