BPH can be treated with either drugs or surgery. However, these are not mutually exclusive so men can progress from drug treatment to surgery if their symptoms worsen.
Some men with very mild symptoms opt for active surveillance, where their condition is monitored by their doctor so that any worsening of their condition can be quickly spotted and treated. There are also several minimally invasive alternatives, though these are relatively new and long-term experience with them is limited.
