OF AN INSTRUMENT TO MEASURE THE INFORMATIONAL NEEDS OF MEN WITH
PROSTATE CANCER
Hazel Templeton University of Ulster |
This is “nursing research” looking at support for men with prostate cancer. As prostate cancer is increasingly diagnosed and men require informational support a large part of the increasing workload will fall on nursing shoulders.
The nurses giving this report have looked at the needs of men with prostate cancer. They have modified a questionnaire designed for breast cancer patients to inquire about informational needs in prostate cancer.
Although there is no direct benefit to the patient, psychometric testing suggests nurses now have a “tool” for assessing the“informational” needs of the patient.
