GENETIC IMMUNOTHERAPY FOR PROSTATE CANCER

Dr. Hardev Pandha

St. George's Hospital Medical School, London

The most likely avenue for a cure for most cancers is by some form of immunologically mediated therapy. This research investigated the effect of the heat treatment of vaccinated cells.

Anti-cancer therapy with vaccines is now an established research concept. The vaccinated cells providing the immune stimulus can be modified (in the stimulus they provide) by heating to 42 degrees. It was suspected that heat-treated cells would provide a better immune stimulus.

This research indicated that this does indeed seem to be the case; and as vaccines for cancer become more popular this is valuable research.
