| The Ignorance Isn't Bliss campaign is a patient-led UK national initiative founded by Kit Hobday and supported by Prostate Research Campaign UK and by an AstraZeneca educational grant. |
The aim of the campaign is to encourage women to persuade the men in their lives with prostatic symptoms to seek help from their doctors. If you would like to receive a copy of the Ignorance Isn't Bliss brochure - A Woman's Guide to the Prostate - please click here.
In 2001, the charismatic founder of this campaign, Kit Hobday, a successful businessman and yachtsman, saw Prince Andrew launch his new yacht 'Bear of Britain' which went on to win the America's Cup Jubilee Regatta that year. This good news was outweighed by the bad news that prostate cancer had struck. Prostate cancer is an eminently treatable disease when caught in time but Kit's wasn't and had already spread to his spine.
Kit and Susie Hobday's response was to take the fight to the disease. Their relentless enthusiasm and determination to educate men and their partners about prostate cancer and the symptoms have made Ignorance Isn't Bliss one of Prostate Research Campaign's most successful ventures.
Sadly, Kit Hobday died of his cancer in June 2006, but at his memorial service that September his many friends reaffirmed their determination to continue to support the campaign. There are special arrangements to accept donations in his memory and cheques should be made payable to "Ignorance Isn't Bliss" and sent to us. Prostate Research Campaign UK fights all forms of prostate disease, whether malignant or benign, through medical research and information to the public. The charity is committed to raising awareness amongst men and women of the signs of prostate disease and the importance and benefits to men of seeking early advice and treatments.
