Update has a well-established practice of publishing patients" stories and these have proved to be very popular. These are the only submissions that the Editor invariably leaves untouched, for they represent an individual"s experience from their perspective and at an extraordinarily difficult time in their lives. We will all recognise the elements of anger, denial, hurt and fear that anyone affected by these terrible diseases goes through during a shattering journey, as we also see the gratitude and joy of those who make it.
A recent such article by Tony James mentioned the life-threatening problems he had encountered over diagnosis in Bristol, and some readers felt that this reflected badly on the internationally-renowned Urological Unit there: it was never the intention to impugn this fine establishment, which we commend to our readers, and if any offence has been caused we apologise. But this is a magazine written for (and often by) those suffering from prostate diseases and we will not censor or deny our supporters a platform for airing their experiences.
