About us. PROSTATE RESEARCH CAMPAIGN UK By Anthony Kilmister As recently as 1994 there appeared to be a myriad of charities combating every ailment under the sun with the conspicuous exception of one to tackle problems of the prostate. Clearly, so far as provision for prostate patients was concerned here was a Cinderella area that needed urgent attention. I set about filling the gap by recruiting urologists, patients and people of good-will. It was painstakingly slow at first but then enthusiasm took hold and we were able to make substantial inroads into the objectives we had defined. Our first research project was one in Edinburgh and this has been followed by others right across England, Scotland and Wales. At the outset we decided not to become linked to any one particular hospital or institution so that we could enjoy the freedom to support good research anywhere in Britain where good ideas arise. As funds grow so does our capacity to finance more and more research. At the same time the other side of our work was not neglected. The provision of patients information literature is the twin pillar which produces the buoyancy of the charity and is its other principal objective. Fact sheets, leaflets and the like were quickly produced and thereafter Prostate Problems: The Facts an attractive well illustrated and expertly written booklet covering prostatitis, BPH and prostate cancer. This, in turn, has given way to a brand new, much bigger book entitled The Prostate: small gland, big problem. (This book is available from Prostate Research Campaign UK priced 8.95 incl p&p) A quarterly Newsletter entitled Update has become an eagerly awaited publication under the expert editorship of Richard Killick, who, with Jim Cable, has also been responsible for creating this website. All these activities and provision cost money a lot of money and the ability of Prostate Research Campaign UK to pursue its goals is in direct relationship to the financial support it receives. Celebrity Lunches, Marathons, concerts and other major events are augmented by Coffee mornings, fun runs and good honest donations. The introduction of Gift Aid in its new form (abolishing the 250 limit) means that all donations of whatever size can be enhanced by the reclamation of tax the donor previously suffered on the amount contributed. Your support will be warmly welcomed. Bankers Order forms and Gift Aid Declaration forms are available from:
